Earth, as a building material, has been rediscovered by designers all over the world in the past dozen or so years. It has been used as a construction material in residential and public sector buildings and even in constructions of a sacral nature. In Europe, one of the specialists of rammed earth architecture is the Austrian architect, Martin Rauch, who, by using this traditional building material designs modern, functional and healthy buildings. Another architect, the creator of the American sky-scrapers, Nathaniel Alexander Owings, built a house for himself using earth. Buildings made from rammed earth are becoming more and more popular in Europe, Australia, Canada and USA. These modern houses made from earth are beautiful, aesthetically pleasing are fully functional and meet even the most sophisticated expectations.

In West Europe an entire housing estate has been built where the walls were made using earth. France and Germany are building these houses on a large scale. A unique effect can be obtained by combining walls made of earth with walls made of architectural concrete. Museums, galleries and opera houses are the perfect places for using such a solution. Earth is a perfect raw material for producing finishing materials such as plaster, paint and clay plates. Their use guarantees the impression of naturalness and a unique interior character. Both the colour, with the different textures of the finishing layers, and the bare walls of rammed earth go perfectly together with other modern building materials like steel, aluminium and glass.
